Αντιμέτωπος με την ανεργία και την απόρριψη της κοπέλας του, ο συγγραφέας Έντι Μόρα (Μπράντλεϊ Κούπερ) είναι σίγουρος ότι δεν έχει μέλλον. Όλα αλλάζουν όταν ένας παλιός φίλος του δίνει ένα φάρμακο που παράγει ενισχυμένη πνευματική οξύτητα.

Η ταινία Δεσμώτης του ιλίγγου (Vertigo) είναι ψυχολογικό θρίλερ παραγωγής 1958, σε σκηνοθεσία Άλφρεντ Χίτσκοκ. Το σενάριο της ταινίας, το οποίο έγραψαν οι Άλεκ Κόουπελ και Σάμιουελ Α. Τέιλορ, είναι βασισμένο στο αστυνομικό μυθιστόρημα των Μπουαλώ-Ναρσεζάκ με τίτλο D'entre les morts.

Οικτρή η απόδοση του τίτλου της ταινίας στα ελληνικά. 

Εκπληκτική η ομοιότητα της Kim Νovak με την Τατιάνα Στεφανίδου

Θεωρώ τον Alfred Hitchcock εξαιρετικά υπερτιμημένο σκηνοθετη. Δεν τον έχω σε ιδιαίτερη εκτίμηση και οι ταινίες του πάντα κινούνται αργά και βαρετά. Δινουν γκάζι στο τέλος, αλλά το σύνολο είναι πάντα βαρετό.

Ο ντετέκτιβ της αστυνομίας του Σαν Φρανσίσκο Scottie Fergusson (James Stewart) αναπτύσσει φόβο για τα ύψη και αναγκάζεται να αποσυρθεί όταν ένας συνάδελφός του πέφτει μέχρι θανάτου κατά τη διάρκεια μιας καταδίωξης. 

Ένας παλιός φίλος από το κολέγιο προσλαμβάνει τον Σκότι για να παρακολουθήσει τη σύζυγό του Μαντλίν (Κιμ Νόβακ) που φέρεται να έχει κυριευτεί από το πνεύμα του προγόνου της που ονομάζεται Καρλότα. 

Ο Scottie την ακολουθεί στο Σαν Φρανσίσκο και έλκεται από τη Madeleine και την εμμονή της με τον θάνατο. Γίνεται άθελά του μια φιγούρα σε μια περίπλοκη πλοκή και είναι αποφασισμένος να ανακαλύψει την αλήθεια πίσω από όλα αυτά.
